The Biggest Mega-Sena Jackpots

Assuming a regular entry of six numbers, the odds of winning the Mega-Sena jackpots are one in 50 millions and there are numerous occasions when nobody succeeds in matching the winning numbers. Fortunately for Brazilian players, the lottery jackpot is rolled over for the next draw and so it grows until someone finally scores the winning combination. One of the previous records was set back in 1999 when a player from Salvador won R$64. 9 million after buying a basic entry containing just six numbers.

For more than a decade nobody came even close of setting a new record, with the most notable results been recorded in 2007 and 2008. Two players won almost identical amounts revolving closely around R$53 million and another sizable prize was awarded in the first month of 2009, with a lucky player being awarded R$45 million. In the second half of 2009 two players split a massive jackpot of R$145million which now stands as the current Mega Sena records. It was equally divided between two players from Brasilia and São Paulo and it is yet to be matched and exceeded by lottery players.

Once a year, the special draw of Mega-Sena is held and it is during this time when records are more likely to be surpassed. The Mega Da Virada draw has made a millionaire in 2010 and also set the latest record as someone won R$194.3 million. Right now the gap between the two lotteries is of almost 50 millions and given the manner in which Mega Da Virada jackpots are built it is hard to believe that a Mega-Sena player will shatter the record in the foreseeable future.
